The Delaware Valley is particularly well served by botanical gardens, parks, and arboreta. Try a visit to any of these great sites during the year. Many sites have all-season interest and can be as enjoyable in January as June. Several of them will be on our field trip schedule for a class visit.
Longwood Gardens – Kennett Square’s botanical and horticultural showplace – world class public gardens with extensive indoor conservatories.
Morris Arboretum – The University of Pennsylvania’s Chestnut Hill site. Outstanding arboretum and perennial gardens.
Tyler Arboretum – 650 acres of Delaware County woodlands. Outstanding tree specimens, great walking trails.
Chanticleer – An exquisite 31 acre public garden in Wayne, PA. Fabulous diversity of uncommon garden plants.
Bartram’s Garden – The 18th century home of botanist and early American explorer John Bartram. A remarkable view into historical botany and the ideal site to see the famous Franklinia alatamaha.
